While defending against the indian massacre that killed her husband, hid her two boys, one under a tub, the other in a potato hole

Emigrated in 1701 from England. Family was from Norfolk, England. First recorded was John Beckham of Creke, in Norfolk (abt 1430?). Name is from "beck" meaning a small brook and "ham" meaning home. One of his descendants, Joseph Beckham, married a Cobb of Spotsylvania Co. & the couple moved to Georgia.
